Current Conditions 3/5

Pretty chilly this week on Montana’s Gallatin River. Temps are in the high twenties and low thirties and lots of snow is in the forecast in the second half of the week. If you’re feeling like braving the cold there is still some solid fishing to be had. Nymphing will be the way to go but keep an eye out for some fish coming to the surface for Midges.

Try fishing a tandem nymph rig with a small Pat’s Rubber Leg or a Worm as the lead fly followed by a dark Perdigon or the classic Zebra Midge in black or purple. Focus your fishing in the deeper holes, Inside bends tend to hold good numbers of fish. Make sure to add some split shot about a foot above the lead fly to ensure those flies get down quickly.
