The Butte Ranger District of the Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest has implemented a Special Order prohibiting the possession or storage of any material containing nails, screws, or other metal hardware, including wood pallets and construction debris, that could be used as firewood.

This Special Order is necessary for public health and safety.

Exemptions to the Special Order include the following:

ℹ Persons with a Forest Service term grazing permit, timber sale contract or special use authorization for outfitting and guiding, ski area or resorts, organization camps, utilities, or other use documented by a valid US Forest Service permit or contract.

ℹ Any federal, state, or local officer, or member of an organized rescue or firefighting resource in the performance of an official duty.

This Special Order, signed by the Forest Supervisor on March 27, 2025, will remain in effect until 2030 or until rescinded.
