Some hunting stories are worth sharing–even if we don’t have all of the details. This Montana Canada goose hunter had quite the day of hunting in January, and it was worth sharing!

Stay safe out there, folks, and take a look at his story shared by Hunt Montana:

I earned this one. Got up early as I was planning on hunting a high traffic public spot. Luckily I was the first there…. unloaded the kayak and gear only to realize I left my ammo box at home. Left the kayak and dekes on shore… hauled ass home and made it back 20 minutes later. Fortunately I was still the only one there before daylight. Getting in the kayak I rolled it and went all the way in the water with my decoy bad strapped to my back (terrible idea)… lucky I had my wade belt tight and it was shallow enough to touch. I admit it would have been funny to watch but in the moment a little scary. Things can happen fast in the water and this is just another reminder that water can and will always demand respect. I lost a friend this summer to water and that was tough… a simple mistake can cost you a lot more than wet clothes. I had to drag the muddy water filled kayak up on shore to dump the water and contemplated just going home as I was soaked. My stubbornness won… I’ve been wet and cold before. I quickly got to my spot, threw out some decoys and got set up. Daylight was slow with a few distance birds flying to destination fields inaccessible to us commoners. An hour into the day I was just happy I got out at least once… then I hear a couple geese in the distance. They were heading right to me and made a turn just as they approached my zone… I took two shots and dumped the lead bird with a 10 foot lead. I’d rather be lucky than good but that dude was out there. I guess it’s just a little payment for the grind. First animal of 2025… good luck to everyone this year, going to be another one to remember.
