Ice conditions from the North Rock Creek ramp all the way to a few miles north of Sand Arroyo are pretty good after all the cold weather. Everywhere we’ve been has had 13-16 inches of good clear ice There are a few pressure cracks to watch out for, but they are pretty easily visible.
Most of the ice also has a good covering snow on it, so traction with machines and on foot is great right now.
Lake trout fishing has been really good targeting ledges that are 65-80 feet deep adjacent to deep water. Jigs and paddletails, tube jigs and spoons have all been catching decent numbers of fish, working them 8-15 feet off the bottom. The tip-up bite has been pretty slow for us the past week targeting some main lake points with only a few walleye and pike being caught with an occasional ling.
