Elk and deer can get a little too fired up during the rut, especially when they come across a decoy. Thinking it’s a real rival, they’ll charge, ram, and even lock antlers with it—sometimes with enough force to snap the decoy apart. In some cases, the head of the decoy gets tangled in their antlers, leaving them wandering around with an unexpected trophy until it eventually falls off or is removed by somebody. Just goes to show, when the hormones kick in, anything that looks like competition is fair game.
