We fished the ice in the Nelson Creek area again this week, and the bite is still pretty good out there. Ling, walleye, catfish and pike were all caught on tip-ups using live suckers and fat head minnows. VMC size 8 and 10 trebles with a glow bead molded into them worked really well.
Most of our fish were caught in 8-9 feet of water with the bait fished about 10-12 inches of the bottom. A friend of ours was also out there this weekend fishing immediately around the ramp and caught a few walleye and catfish, also.
When we left Sunday, there was quite a bit of water and slush on the ice, and the bad spots out there are still not safe to walk on. If you go out, be extremely careful and check your ice often. Also, don’t forget your ice picks and a throw bag.
