A used beer can helped Montana investigators crack the case in the tragic killing of camper Dustin Kjersem. Gallatin County Sheriff Dan Springer announced that Daren Abbey, previously detained on separate charges, is now accused of Kjersem’s murder. Kjersem was found dead in his Big Sky campsite by his girlfriend after he missed a planned meet-up.

Apparently, Kjersem had welcomed Abbey to his campsite, even offering him a drink. Sadly, things took a violent turn, and Abbey allegedly attacked him. The investigation remains ongoing, with Sheriff Springer noting this “heinous” crime shook the community. A GoFundMe has been set up for Kjersem’s children, and authorities stress they’re committed to justice.
