As the Earth travels around the Sun, our days begin to grow shorter. The long days of Summer began in June, but Fall is slowly creeping up on us. This means that days have less sunlight to nourish plants. The elk, deer and antlered critters are getting ready to shed their velvet and begin competing for mating rites.
As the days grow shorter, leaves get less light to continue Photosynthesis, which keeps them growing. Soon, the trees, grasses and plants will begin to change into their secondary colors and Fall. Fortunately, we tend to get more rain and moisture. Hoot Owl restrictions are being lifted, the intense heat is past, and there is hope for a fat and healthy Winter.
I hate getting up early. It does not matter whether I am hunting, fishing, camping, or just at home, getting up has always been a pain for me. It’s the first five minutes that I dread the most. Once my feet are on the floor, I can get to a cup of coffee, I am ready to go and glad to become an early riser.
During Spring Turkey season, I was waiting for any excuse to stay in the warm sleeping bag. Maybe it will rain, or it will be too windy. Then off in the distance, I could hear a loan gobbler sounding off through the wall tent comfort. My butt was on the edge of the cot and the day would begin.
Most folks miss sunrises. They get up and begin their morning routine of showering and getting ready for work. By the time they go outside and get into their rides, the sun is up.
Summer fires add smoke to the air which enhances the colors of the sky. The sun will look orange and stand out in the smokey sky. The first light is wonderful. It is the beginning of a new day, and anything is possible.
Maybe take one of your days offs to plan for a sunrise viewing. Have the coffee pot set on automatic. Have your clothes laid out for quick access. Set the alarm to a comfortable awakening setting and have the lawn chair positioned toward the eastern sky.
Native peoples always set their teepees with the door facing east. The sun was their alarm clock.
Watching and listening to the world wake up is wonderful therapy. Sit back and sip your coffee.
This is why we live in Montan- aaaahhhhh!!!
