According to a recent article via AP, Back in January, a hunter in southern Michigan shot what he thought was a coyote but turned out to be a gray wolf. This surprised everyone since gray wolves usually stick to Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, not the southern Lower Peninsula. The hunter reported the mistake to the Department of Natural Resources, and no charges were filed against him because he genuinely believed he was shooting a coyote.

The DNR is puzzled about how the wolf ended up there and welcomes any tips from the public. There was even a mark on the wolf’s foot suggesting it had been trapped recently, adding more mystery to the story.
