Canyon Ferry: Walleye and rainbows are being caught by anglers trolling Slow Death rigs and a worm with bottom bouncers or crankbaits in 25-30 feet of water. The hot spots over the weekend were Ponds 2 and 3 and around the Silos. Rainbows are being caught around White Earth and Beaver Creek Bay from shore while using worms or jigs. Boat anglers did great for rainbows while trolling cowbells on the north end around the Outhouse, Cemetery Island and Yacht Basin. The carp are starting to get active and can be caught with the same walleye and rainbow gear or by bow fishing. Troy Humphrey, FWP, Helena
Hauser: A few rainbows are being caught from shore at Black Sandy, York Bridge, and below Canyon Ferry Dam while using San Juan Worms, nightcrawlers, various spinners, or Power Bait. Trolling cowbells and wedding ring combos tipped with crawlers from White Sandy to the Dam has also been producing a few rainbows. Fishing in Lake Helena and the Causeway Arm has been a little slow with the muddy waters from spring runoff, but a few walleyes are being picked up on Lake Helena while trolling various crankbaits or bottom bouncers with perch-colored spinners tipped with crawlers or leeches. Chris Hurley, FWP, Helena
Holter: The Lower end of the reservoir is producing good numbers of rainbows while trolling cowbells and wedding ring combos tipped with crawlers and blue or purple crankbaits. The Gates of the Mountains area has been popular for trout anglers in boats while using midge nymphs or leech patterns and anglers fishing from shore at the Gates, the BLM boat ramp, and Log Gulch campground area have been doing well with Power Bait and nightcrawlers. There’s been a good walleye bite inside the Canyon to Mann Gulch while vertical jigging with leeches. A few perch are being picked up while pitching jigs and crawlers around the boat ramp docks from Log Gulch to the BLM campground, around Cottonwood Creek Bay, and in some of the bays on the lower end of the reservoir.
