The wonderful weather this week required that a fishing trip was needed. Meatstick and I went to the Causeway for the day. Both of us were happy to just sit in the sun and relax.

The so-called warm weather was ruined by a cool breeze. We were still in our coats and the wind was ruining our fishing. The bites were hard to see in the blowing and bouncing waves.

Despite the challenges Meatstick was the first to strike. We fished close so we helped each other land these big trout together. Meatstick was on the spot and the fishing was hot! He pointed to the south where we could see a huge fire on the mountain.

Several fires began filling the sky with smoke. A controlled burn at Cabin Gulch breached containment and burned 1,500 acres. A ditch fire got out of control at Birdseye and took out 4 acres. A fire at Shamna and Deadman also exploded.

There are a few visible mansions perched on some nearby hills. I am sure that the owners were puckering a little.

My heart was not into the fishing as much as just being outside in the sun and being with my buddy fishing. Meatstick has been homebound after surgery. He did manage to surgically catch several Big Bows on his first trip out this year.

Despite my lack of energy, sore muscles, and other excuses, I managed to net some Bigguns too. One rainbow was 25 inches long. Even a Blind Squirrel finds an acorn once in a while.

The thing I love about fishing is that you will never completely master the sport. There is always something new to learn. Not every day is a boatload of fish. Some days are just relaxing, and fun.

Fishing with a Buddy helps solve all the world’s problems, keeps marriages strong, teaches new tactics, and is just fun. That’s plenty! Catching a fish is just the excuse to get out of the house and go. Montana Lin loves when I am away, and she can do whatever she wants.

The big trout that I kept fileted beautifully. I used my new pin bone tweezers to pull out those pesky stinkers. The bright orange filets will make another wonderful healthy meal.

Getting bites never gets old!
