So, you’ve bagged a Boone and Crockett-worthy trophy? Congrats! Now it’s time to tackle the paperwork jungle to officially enter your prize into the books. Don’t worry, it’s easier than it sounds. You can start the process here with the online scoring calculator on the Boone and Crockett website where you can green score your critter, if you want. You don’t have to, though. While you’re cruising the site, you can check out records, too–here’s Montana’s state list, and you can see some of records in the feature image above.
Okay, now let’s get to the summary of how to get this process done:
Step 1: Score Chart – The Trophy’s Report Card
You’ll need a completed score chart signed by a B&C Official Measurer. It’s sort of comparable to a VIP pass for your trophy, but without it, there’s no entry. And yes, it must be the real chart—not one you printed from the internet this morning. *wink*
Step 2: Show Them the Money!
Include your $40 entry fee—checks, money orders, or credit cards work. No Venmo, sorry. And if you’re short on cash, processing gets paused, so don’t skimp here.
Step 3: Snap Some Trophy Glamor Shots
Photos are a must: clear, focused and showing off all the angles. No blurry selfies with your critter, please. Whether it’s antlers, horns or a bear skull, the records team needs to see it all—field photos are optional but totally encouraged if you want your trophy to be Insta-famous in B&C’s publications–and who wouldn’t want that?
Step 4: Affidavit—Sign It Like You Mean It
Download the Entry Affidavit form and get it signed. Then have it notarized or witnessed by a B&C Official Measurer. It’s sort of like getting a permission slip, but for your hunting skills.
Step 5: Extra Credit for Hunters
Fill out the Hunter, Guide and Hunt info sheet, and include a copy of your hunting license or tags. Can’t find your tag or threw it away? No worries—a note from your local Game and Fish office will do the trick.
Step 6: For the Non-Hunters
Bought it, found it or inherited it? You’ll need to sign a Materials Release Form. Consider this form submission the “Where did you get this?” part of the process.
Step 7: Seal the Deal
Gather everything, double-check it all with the detailed Boone and Crockett website steps (click here), and send it all in. Now, sit back and wait for your trophy to join the ranks of legends.
