Tyler Johnson and his dad had a close encounter with a brown bear that they won’t soon forget. While hiking off the beaten path on the Kenai Peninsula in Alaska, they found themselves face-to-face with a grizzly. It all went down fast—a sudden growl, a charge, and within seconds, Tyler was on the ground with the bear biting his leg.
In a desperate move, Tyler pulled out his 10mm pistol and shot at the bear. Unfortunately, in the chaos, he accidentally shot himself in the upper leg. Despite the intense situation, Tyler and his dad managed to fend off the bear and kill it.
Chris Johnson, Tyler’s dad, is a seasoned Alaska State Trooper with loads of experience in these kinds of situations. He quickly applied a tourniquet and gauze to Tyler’s wounds and called for help using an SOS signal. While waiting for rescue, Tyler kept his spirits up by recording videos and chatting with his dad, who was a rock of support throughout the ordeal.
When the rescue team arrived, Tyler was airlifted to a hospital in Anchorage, where he’s recovering well. Despite the terrifying experience, he’s set to head back to Austin soon to reunite with his family and start a new job. This close call is a stark reminder of the wild and unpredictable nature of Alaskan adventures!
