Custer County Sheriff’s Office reports an 89-year-old man is home safe after spending 10 days in the Salmon-Challis National Forest.
They first reported this on Thursday: Bing Olbum. 89 years old. Left from Hunter Creek Trailhead on August 1. Has not returned to exit point of Mcdonald Creek Area. If you have any information please contact us at 208-879-2232. Our Search and Rescue units are activated and searching the possible trails.

Bing Olbum has been found and is home. It is an extraordinary outcome for this incident! His camp was located late in the evening of August 10. Local residents ventured out on horseback and located him at approximately 12:30 am on August 11, he was returned home around 3:00 am.
Sheriff Levi Maydole is thankful for the relentless efforts of our wonderful community in providing this outcome.
Bing’s will to survive has resulted in an unbelievably good ending to this incident. We hope that his recovery is swift, and he will be enjoying time with his family and friends.
