Mountain lions usually hunt alone and rely on their solitary nature to approach and ambush their prey without detection. However, they may occasionally collaborate with other lions, particularly during hunts involving larger prey like elk. These large felines typically employ a suffocating bite to the neck or throat region to incapacitate their prey quickly. Once the elk is immobilized, the lion will consume the carcass or may attempt to cache it for later consumption.
If you have never seen an elk and a mountain lion go at it, this footage taken in Colorado is for you.
