A recent review by Montana-based digital mapping company onX found more than 8.3 million acres of public land in 11 western states “corner locked.” Most of the acreage is Bureau of Land Management land and totals about 871,000 acres in Montana alone. Corner crossing is a hot debate in Wyoming where nonresident hunters were declared not guilty for using a modified step ladder to cross at the corners of two parcels of public lands. But the landowner is taking the case to civil court seeking trespassing charges.
