  • Inconsistent deep nymphing has been the theme this past week. If you are deep nymphing. 4′-6′ to split shot. Sows probably the strongest overall with various BWO nymph patterns batting second.
  • The shorter versions have been picking up a few as well.
  • The fish are in flux, and are moving around as we continue to transition into spring like conditions.
  • Air temps will spike this remainder of the week coupled with the winds from the W and WSW. A reminder that our prevailing wind is from the SW.
  • Bring your sunscreen. Daily temps reaching towards the 80F mark in the next couple days. 74F today. 79F tomorrow. 70F Saturday.
  • Not much for the dry. Searched all day long yesterday. A couple around. Sometimes you see more than that. Let’s hope this spring sometime?

And those who bow at the altar of Mother Mo, well, they simply wait for divine Mother to speak and if they are real good, just let Mother Mo guide their actions.

  • Seined a couple runs again yesterday and found Baetis, March Browns, PMD’s, slender aquatic worms, sows, scuds, a couple smaller random black stones, black fly larvae, midges. Will update you as to the lower river this weekend.
  • The streamer gang is finding success on larger brown trout. The next month, May is considered by the experts to be the best streamer month of the year. Not October which can bring the big boys on other resources. Here, May is the month. Flashy seems to be the strong suit this past week.
  • Remember: This fishing report is written by Mark, who is one guy. Sometimes other shop studs write a report. These are my experiences. Not yours, or others. They may be different than other anglers fishing other reaches with other techniques and other skill sets. Again, remming that beginners do not usually catch as many, their skill set does not allow it, yet. Those who fish 100 days or better annually generally catch more. Why? Well, you know why. More in tune with the ways of the water, Mother Nature.
  • And those who bow at the altar of Mother Mo, well, they simply wait for divine Mother to speak and if they are real good, just let Mother Mo guide their actions.
