Ice fishing is just a few degrees away. Montana winter is coming and as the temperatures drop the ice thickens. Skinny ice fishermen have an advantage over Fat Boy Ice Men. Georgetown Lake is usually the first ice fishing opportunity in Montana, I am already seeing Facebook pictures of great Brookies and Rainbows coming through the skinny ice.
Skinny ice is not for Fat boys! I was a nose guard in high school which means I need 5 inches, or more, of hard ice before I venture out to rip some lips.
Now is when we prepare for ice fishing. I know that it is still hunting season but…
As you get your sleds, augers, buckets, and tackle ready, research some fresh Ice Reports.
Try joining the free website group called www.iceshanty.com. This site covers every ice fishing state. Simply sign in and get in touch with all your Ice, Ice Babies in your community. Other Facebook fishing groups are also helpful.
Here is a chart that will remind you what “safe ice” means. Even if you believe the ice to be safe, carry a throw rope, ice picks, and other safety gear, just in case.
Tight lines in your Ice Holes soon, Babies!
