FORT PECK CONTINUES TO FISH WELL: EASTERN MONTANA FISHING REPORT

Please be advised that warm weather has been making precarious high wind conditions meaning caution should be used in the waters . Call the contact person in the area you are planning on fishing for current daily information. Also use extreme caution on the water at all times. Rock Creek Marina

Bill says, “the fishing this week is hot. They are mostly using worms.  People are getting their limit and most are 2 to 5 pounds.” Northern and small mouth bass are hot and biting on anything.

Crooked Creek Marina

Grant says,”This year, the fishing is the best I have ever seen in my life. They are catching walleye, pike, and some crappie.” They are using crank baits and crawlers. This weekend is the kids tournament and anyone is welcome. We have fuel now and the the tank is operable. Price of gas i$4.45 a gallon.

Hell Creek Marina

Isaiah says, “the fishing is still good. In the morning go east toward the dam for Northern and for walleye go west toward crooked creek. In the morning cranks are working in the shallows.”  Northerns are biting on five tigers in chartreuse.   Walleyes are being found at 15 to 18 feet and are biting on bottom bouncers and a worm harness.  Trout are deep at 40 to 50 feet.

Fort Peck Reservoir Dam/Bear Creek/Pines

Gene Moore, of Lake Ridge says, “Fishing is really good.  The lake is really producing and they are catching nice fish.  The walleyes are catching well in the river.”

West Side Sports

Nelson, Forchette

Dan at West Side Sports tells us, “Nelson is good for  northern pike. Walleye are fishing slow.  They are using bottom bouncers, night crawlers, leeches and crankbaits.”

Cooney Reservoir

Fishing for walleye has  picked up.  People are limiting out.  They are not big.  They are biting on leeches and lures especially trolling.  Fishing off shore is okay.

Deadmans and Martinsdale

Martinsdale is  good fishing from the boat.  Shoreline is tough.  They mostly are trolling for fish.

The river is dead and slow at this time.  They are catching a few on shore.   Slower  bite because of the heat.

Tongue River Marina

Colton says, “Walleye are nice size all over and being caught using cranks. The crappie  are biting okay.  We are seeing nice size northern pike being caught.   The catfish are biting on stinky bait.”

Silos Marina, Canyon Ferry Reservoir

Fishing is good. We are seeing more walleyes in the 16 to 20 inch lengths caught.  The south end in the shallows is still good fishing.  You can find trout at the hole in the wall.  The hot bait is glass minnows  by kits classic.  “They are catching everything, walleye, trout and perch,“ Sharon says.

“Fishing is better.  They are catching  catfish,“ Allen reports.  The River is getting a little  clearer every day.  Word has it a few trout are being caught by Huntley.

Lake Elmo, Billings

People are catching  trout consistently.    High temperatures have slowed things down.

Charlie says, “Fishing is pretty good.  Spring Creek is good with a fly rod.  The are biting on bead heads and pheasant tails.  Dry fly fishing is good with yellow sally’s and adams fly. The river is good with worms and leeches.  Crooked Creek is fishing well at the narrows with jigs and crankbaits.   There are a lot of walleyes and some are heading north.

Twifford – Forchette

Forchette is fishing well for walleye.  They are using bottom bouncers and worm harnesses,
